Organization: International Crisis Group
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 11 Mar 2016

The role:

Crisis Group is seeking a volunteer to assist its Development team in London starting in March for a period of 6 months. The volunteer will support the Private Sector Initiatives team in all fundraising activities related to Individuals, Corporations and Family Foundations. S/he will also have the opportunity to coordinate closely with the Special Events team in the planning, delivery, and follow-up of key high-level donor events in London. The main tasks will include:

  • Assist with the preparation and on-day support of monthly events and meetings in London;
  • Research and compile accurate profiles of prospective funders;
  • Support the establishment and sustaining close relationships with current and prospective funders;
  • Assist with the preparation of funding proposals and correspondence;
  • Maintain the donor database and records;
  • Office management support and assistance in preparation for bilateral meetings; and
  • Schedule appointments, handle correspondence, keep track of calendars, and performing other necessary tasks as needed.

As part of a small and friendly team, the position is administrative in nature but offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in a high-profile international NGO. The successful candidate will discover how an organisation approaches and cultivates relationships with individuals and corporations. A significant portion of Crisis Group’s funding comes from private sector support and, as such, the Events Volunteer will be part of a small team that makes it possible for Crisis Group to continue its work on preventing and resolving conflict worldwide.

The Events Volunteer will be supervised and mentored by the Office Manager, and will support the Director of London Office and the Head of Private Sector Development, Europe. Weekly meetings will be held to discuss projects and review progress, and the volunteer will have the opportunity to interact with others across the organisation, particularly the wider Private Sector team based in New York.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or in pursuit of a degree;
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English;
  • Ability to conceptualise, write, and edit letters and proposals;
  • Strong organisational skills, self-motivation, flexibility, and reliability are essential;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a demanding environment;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, and Google applications; and
  • Authorisation to work in the UK.

How to apply:

If you wish to apply please send your CV and cover letter in English tointern.vacancies@crisisgroup.org clearly stating “Events Volunteer, London" before 11 March 2016.

Due to the large number of applications that we receive, we are unable to respond to each individual candidate. Only applicants selected for interviews will be contacted.

Please note that our internships are unpaid, though a small stipend for lunch and transport is provided.
